“Victory in Life” – When Love Speaks
In Jesus’ final moments on the cross, he shouted out a word of victory, “It is finished.” Some thought His mission, work, and life was a failure. Jesus was claiming victory, not admitting defeat. Jesus’ victory in life was not just for Himself, but for all humanity. Instead of looking to our own achievement and abilities for our identity, we can look to Jesus. Find out how Jesus’ victory gives us strength and encouragement no matter what we face in life.
John 19:28-30 Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!”
Colossians 2:14-15 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.
Romans 8:1 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:2 And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
Romans 8:3-4 The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.
Romans 8:15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children.* Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”
